Arm lift or Brachioplasty

Definition and objectives

When the skin of the inner arm has lost its elasticity, liposuction alone is not enough and restoring skin tension is necessary. The surgeon then performs an arm lift.

Such a procedure is indicated in the presence of a net release of skin due to ageing or significant weight loss.

Procedure and scars

The procedure aims to reduce fatty infiltration by liposuction, which allows an undermining of tissues without lymphatic injury, and then remove the excess of skin.

The procedure leaves the following scars:

• A scar placed in the armpit, when skin excess is limited.
• A longitudinal scar on the inner side of the arm extending into the armpit, where skin excess is significant.

The arm lift is very requested by patients. However, they are ultimately dissuaded when informed of the scars.

The intervention takes place in an outpatient surgery center It lasts for 1 to 2 hours, and can be performed either under local anesthesia along with intravenous sedation (NLA, neuroleptanalgesia) or under general anesthesia.
